About Vehicle Speed Test
Vehicle Speed Test is a free, browser-based GPS speedometer. Open it on any modern phone, allow location access, and you have an instant speed readout for whatever vehicle you happen to be travelling in — a car, a bike, a bus, a train, the metro, or even your own running pace.
Our goal is simple: build the cleanest, fastest, most accurate web speedometer we can — without ads-first design, without an account, without uploading your location anywhere. Everything runs locally in your browser.
Speed tests we offer
- Vehicle Speed Test: the main speedometer, suitable for any moving vehicle.
- Car Speed Test: tuned for a 0–240 km/h range, ideal for comparing against your dashboard.
- Bike Speed Test: a 0–80 km/h scale and large digital readout for cycling.
- Bus Speed Test: good for city, suburban, and intercity coaches.
- Train Speed Test: scales up to 350 km/h for high-speed services.
- Metro Speed Test: designed for metros, subways, light rail and trams.
- Running Speed Test: a 0–30 km/h scale with average pace, perfect for outdoor runs.
How it works
When you tap Start, the page asks the browser for permission to use your device’s location. We use the standard navigator.geolocation.watchPosition API, the same one used by mapping apps. From the position and time information your phone reports, the page calculates real-time speed, average speed, top speed, distance, and elapsed time — entirely on your device.
We do not upload your location to a server. We do not store anything in the cloud. When you close the tab, the readings are gone.
Roadmap
We're actively improving the readouts, adding more vehicle modes (boats and planes are next), and refining the design. If you have suggestions, please get in touch.
